The guitar is a popular instrument with all ages. Its fun and rewarding and you can share your music easily with friends and family because your can take your instrument with you. Try doing that with a piano! But it can be difficult to know how to start to learn to play guitar beginner.

When you first decide to learn, you must decide if you want to take professional lessons or purchase a course and teach yourself. Professional private lessons from a good guitar teacher are a great way to learn but can be very expensive. And that is extra money that you have to spend in addition to buying the guitar itself. For the price of one lesson, you can get computer courses that include videos, software and books and do a great job teaching beginners. The key to becoming a great guitarist is practice and patience.

Your first step is to learn how to hold your guitar correctly and use a good posture while playing. It is a very important part of starting to learn to play guitar for beginners. This can make a world of difference to the quality of your playing so it’s a good idea to spend time on this and get it right before you pick up bad habits. The easiest position to start with is sitting down on a an armless chair with a straight back. You should be sitting comfortably with your back against the chair back. Now hold your guitar so the body is against your stomach/chest and the neck is parallel to the floor. The thickest string should be at the top. For most styles, the body of the guitar will rest on your leg that is furthest away from the headstock (the bit at the end of the neck with the tuning knobs). The thumb of your ‘fretting’ hand (the hand that is on the neck, forming chords) should rest behind the neck of the guitar, with your fingers in a slightly curled position, poised above the strings.

Now you are ready to start playing. First, you should learn to strum 3-4 basic chords. This is enough to get you started playing simple songs. Its much more satisfying to start out learning chords that you can play a song with than to learn scales. You’ll be impressing your family and friends with your talents in no time!

When you first start to learn to play guitar chords, there are several pitfalls that you should be aware of. These tips come from 20+ years of playing, and 5+ years of full-time teaching guitar. Don’t take the advice lightly!

Here are the main problems I’ve seen in the last five years:

1. When students first start to learn chords, they look at each individual finger. That’s fine, and you should- at first. As soon as possible, though, you want to see a SHAPE for each guitar chord, not just individual fingers and strings. How do you learn to see your guitar chords as a shape? Play faster. How do you learn to play faster?…

2. …USE A METRONOME! This should be your FIRST priority. Don’t even worry about playing any guitar chord until you can at least SOMEWHAT feel a beat. You don’t have to be great at it, but if you can’t keep up with the metronome without an instrument, why would you think you’d be able to play guitar chords too??? Spend a LOT of time tapping along with the radio, metronome, clock or…

3. …USE A FRIEND. Guys- you get good at something by doing it a LOT. Guitar chords are no different. Hang around musicians as often as possible, and ask for LOTS of advice. Seriously. Do it. Now.

4. Your fingers are MUSCLES!- All muscles start out weak, and when you work out, you get stronger and faster. Same thing with learning guitar chords. You have to spend time each day “working out” your fingers. The first SEVERAL times you try to play guitar chords, your fingers will be weak- keep going!

****(BTW- if you skip a day at first, you’ll have to start almost completely over. Once you’ve been playing for a while, it won’t be a big deal to take a couple of days off. But at first, your body wants to see how serious you are about what you’re asking it to do- guitar chords are hard!!!)****

5. There’s no extra credit for doing something one time. The goal is not to just play a chord once, the goal is to be able to play ANY chord we wish, as fast and as often as I want! DON’T STOP in the middle!!!! Doing a chord once or twice is cool, but songs last four minutes!!! It takes a SERIOUS amount of endurance to play a whole song- Remember: We’re working out!

There they are! There are obviously other elements and practice methods that would help- you can find more of them at the website listed in the resource box- but start with these.

If you:

-Practice at a steady beat,
-Increase speed so you challenge yourself each time
-Go for longer than you “think” you should (endurance… Don’t be dumb with it, but push yourself!)
-Don’t get frustrated (muscles- they’re muscles…) and
-Build your support group. Friends. Music friends.

…you should be able to accomplish any goal you wish when you learn to play guitar chords.

For those interested in finding an exciting, rewarding, and often times useful hobby that can be learned in the midst of a hectic daily schedule, it’s hard to see learning how to play the guitar as an available option. But in reality, learn to play the guitar online opens up a wealth of flexible new ways for those interested to keep up their busy day, while using whatever free time they have available leftover to learn the basics of playing the guitar. Taking lessons online not only saves valuable time, but can also potentially save new students of the guitar a bundle in cash!

With the only major purchase being the initial practice guitar you wish to learn on, the hassle of learning the guitar and dealing with a lot of scheduling red tape with private trainers and guitar classes are a thing of the past. Using sites like eBay or Craigslist to find a good practice/training guitar is perhaps the most involved step when learning how to play the guitar online-make sure that you only bid on classic ’six-stringed’ guitars, preferably acoustic rather than electric. This is due to the increased amount of variables associated with playing the electric guitar, and the fact that many electric guitars are custom-made and create additional barriers for learning the basic fundamentals when dealing with abnormal functions. Keeping everything as simple and default as possible is key when using online resources to learn how to play the guitar.

Once you’ve secured the practice guitar that works best, you’re ready to begin looking for an online guitar lesson source! Many options exist on the internet for learning how to play the guitar online, some cost a nominal fee for training and others offer instruction at no cost. What you are seeking to find as a new student of the guitar is the online source that offers a beginner’s guide for playing the guitar: instruction on all the parts of a guitar (including how to tune/string the guitar), tips on using the fingerboard/fretboard to play notes, how to finger guitar scales/chords, and reading basic sheet music (in addition to reading scale and chord charts properly). Beginner’s will also benefit greatly from an online guitar lesson that offers streaming video demonstrations for new techniques and guitar maneuvers, so if you find a free online source or two that offers videos make sure to bookmark them! Additional things to be on the lookout for are a forum for new players to submit questions and receive answers from online lesson staff, professional guitar players, or other beginners alike on any topic that would concern you as a new guitar student.

So for the person with a large desire to learn how to play the guitar, but with a small window of free-time each week to actually devote to the new hobby, learning the guitar online presents an alternative method for reaching that very goal. Don’t allow the fast-paced nature of life to chase away your dreams of being the next famous guitarist of tomorrow!

Your primary goal should not be to learn to play guitar fast, but learning to play it correctly. If you learn too fast you might not learn all the things you need to learn the first time and have to go back over and over again until you get it right. Luckily there are courses that offer the best of both worlds. You can get the right instruction while at the same time learning the material right the first time. Here are some of the tips you should follow so that you are really able to learn to play guitar fast.

1. Get courses that are aimed at acceleration:

There are many courses that are aimed at helping you learn to play the guitar fast. These courses will usually have a time frame they want you to use so that you can have the basics down in a short period of time. This is so you don’t’ grow complacent and fall behind in learning. Some may be for a few weeks and some may be for a few months. Find the one that works for you and stick with the plan it is going to give you to follow so that you can learn quickly and accelerate to the more advanced lessons in guitar playing.

2. Practice training with an acoustic guitar:

If you want to learn to play guitar fast you should stick with an acoustic guitar. This is the kind of guitar that doesn’t have to rely on outside power sources to function properly and the one most have used to learn the guitar. You will be able to find your element with the acoustic and once you have mastered this you can move on to the electric guitar because you will have mastered most of the basics at this point. Learning to play the guitar fast will not be a question of how fast you learn, but how the information is being fed to you.

3. Take beginner lessons:

Taking beginner lessons of course may be the best action for you. Taking beginner lessons will enable you to act as if you have never picked up a guitar before, this way everything will be explained to you as if you were a two year old child; this is good though; you want to learn slowly at first to get the basics down. Once you have gotten past the initial learning curve of just starting out you can go into hyper mode and learn all you can until you are eventually able to play full tunes on your guitar.

You can learn to play guitar fast if you stick to these tips when you start out. Looking for courses that are designed to help you learn fast is one way, practicing on the acoustic guitar only is a second way and lastly you want to make sure you take beginner lessons so you can be sure you are learning the information the first time. Do not feel as if you are on the wrong path by starting from the beginning, in no time you will be playing guitar easily.

Learn to Play Guitar DVD Courses – Learn to Play Guitar at Home using Learn to Play Guitar DVD Courses

More and more, people are using the internet to develop new skill and learning the guitar is no exception. Would you rather pay someone $45 and hour or learn more quickly with a learn to play guitar DVD?

There are numerous methods for studying the guitar online… Whether you decide on an at home learn to play guitar DVD course, immediately access your lessons or decide to join a membership site.

Most of the courses you will find on the internet will offer some of the following:

*Different styles of music – Rock, Pop and Blues (electric and acoustic)
*Step by Step Lessons
*Beginner to Advanced instruction
*Taught by experienced instructors
*Over 12 Months worth of Lessons (some have less)

To learn more about our personally reviewed and top recommended guitar programs click here

Let’s get into more detail about the different types of online guitar instruction you will find.

1) Download Lessons Instantly: Most websites will allow you to download your guitar course instantly or a learn to play guitar DVD course. The good news is this is a one-time fee. After payment is received these courses can be immediately downloaded. Pricing is reasonable $50-100. These tend to be in a PDF and video format.

2) Join an Instructional Website: These are sites that require a monthly fee. You will find lots of information at these sites. You may find duplicate instructional videos at these sites. One caveat to be aware of is that the monthly fess can add up quickly and lack of direction due to the same subject being covered by multiple instructors.

3) At Home learn to play guitar DVD: Learn to play guitar DVD courses may be somewhat more expensive than the aforementioned courses due to production and shipping costs but offer very good value to the student. The cost of these products can be reduced by choosing to immediately download their product instead of having the materials shipped to you. You will have your courses in no time by choosing to go this route. This provides, not only, easy and quicker access but will usually save you over $100! These learn to play guitar DVD courses are the closest, and perhaps better, you can get without going to a teacher. The cost of these courses is usually less than two lessons with a guitar teacher and certainly contains much more knowledge than you will gain from a couple of hours with a live instructor.

When looking at these three methods versus in-person guitar lessons, it’s no surprise most individuals are going with an at-home method!

Learn to play a guitar is an exciting and fulfilling hobby, which will give you pleasure for the rest of your life.

If there is one thing that I’ve heard from all of my students, it is the fact that they feel that playing the guitar is going to be difficult. I’m not saying that it is not going to take any work for you to learn to play guitar but I am saying that with a little bit of work, you can begin enjoying it after just a few lessons.

Here are some of the basic techniques that are used in order to teach people guitar, some of which will probably be used in your own lessons as well.

The first thing that you’re going to need to learn are the basics about playing the guitar. Although some people may already understand these things, it is best if you review them before moving on to the next step.

Having a basic understanding of the strings, frets and finger placement are the building blocks of being able to play the guitar successfully. From there, we will move on to more advanced techniques but there are still plenty of basics to learn.

Once you understand the basics about the strings and finger placement, you need to become efficient at strumming the guitar. It’s more than simply going up and down across the strings, there are a lot of subtle differences in strumming techniques that will need to be learned.

Since it is really only necessary for you to learn a few chords in order to effectively play a song or two, understanding how to keep the rhythm with strumming is the next logical step that you will need to take. From that point, it is a matter of practicing and making sure that you become very efficient at switching between chords. This is something that can be taught in a classroom environment but it is usually better if you learn how to do so at home.

One of my favorite methods of doing this is switching between chords whenever you are watching TV or any time you’re sitting idly. It’s not necessary for you to strum at this time, just get used to switching in between the chords so that there is not a delay in your playing.

It’s going to take some work and a lot of determination on your part but if you get started today, you can be playing songs within about a week with some practice.

In this article I’m going to look at the main requirements those of you wanting to learn how to play acoustic guitar should be considering. I hope that the guidelines contained in this article will help you avoid some of the common frustrations which plague beginners and lead many to giving up.

High up in importance is going to be the quality of your instruction and believe me there are some really terrible methods for learning guitar out there ” online, on DVDs, in books you have to be careful. Choosing a poor method or tutor can spell disaster for your chances of learning successfully.

The obvious places to look for guitar instruction would be a local tutor or failing that there are plenty of great resources for online guitar lessons. This is generally the more economical solution and assuming the site is of good quality there’s no reason why you couldn’t learn to play acoustic guitar successfully that way.

DVDs and books can also be good ways to learn but you must be suited to self instruction and motivated to learn acoustic guitar on your own, not everyone is. The best situation to create for yourself is to use a combination of all the above in that you could take private lessons and supplement them with online lessons, books and DVDs.

One of the most popular questions asked by beginners is How long does it take to learn? I would say that normally its around 4 weeks before you can strum along to basic beginner songs. This assumes you’re being taught a good quality method for guitar and possess an average aptitude for the instrument. Beyond that however is a never ending journey which you’ll probably never reach the end of no one ever does!

Lastly we must talk about practice. Now most beginners don’t understand, because they’ve never been taught, how to practice correctly. There is a definite technique to it which is the subject of another article! In short, in order to learn to play acoustic guitar you have to understand how practicing really works and perfect it as a skill.
